Dr. Borimir Darakchiev is a board-certified neurosurgeon at Long Island Brain & Spine, with over 25 years of experience in treating cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve disorders.
A second generation neurosurgeon, Dr. Darakchiev proudly follows the career path of his father, who was a prominent, pioneering neurosurgeon in his native Bulgaria. Having completed a rigorous academic program at the Medical University in Varna, Bulgaria, and a neurosurgical residency at the Medical Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria’s most prestigious hospital.
Dr. Darakchiev fled his home country in the early 1990’s, with his wife and two young children, to pursue a successful career in Neurosurgery in The United States. He completed a second neurosurgical residency and fellowship training in Neurosurgical Oncology and Spine at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, as well as a fellowship in Neurotrauma and Stroke at Weill- Cornell College of Medicine in New York, where he is an Assistant Professor. His clinical expertise combines standard surgical methods with state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgical techniques in treating:
• Brain tumors, meningioma, pituitary adenoma, hydrocephalus and traumatic brain injury.
• Trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, carpal tunnel syndrome, and ulnar nerve entrapment disease.
• Degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, radicular pain, spinal tumors, and trauma to the spine.
Dr. Darakchiev is widely published in leading neurosurgical journals, on novel treatments for malignant brain and pituitary tumors, as well as on spine fractures and stroke.
